First interview of Jaromír Zmrhal

Jaromír Zmrhal, the new addition to our team, gave his first statements on our club’s official website regarding his transfer to Apollon.

Why did you leave Slovan?

I believe I had a very good and full season last year, during which I played in almost every position except central defender. I played as a left and right winger, left and right back, attacking midfielder, and even forward for a few minutes. Wherever the coach needed me, I was there. My contract expired and despite repeated discussions, there was no progress. So, my agent found the opportunity at Apollon and I’m happy to be here. I just started yesterday, and today I’m looking forward to training.

Did you have other offers?

Yes, I had some, but not many. We were waiting for Slovan, but nothing happened. The preparation had already started and I couldn’t wait any longer. As soon as they spoke to me about Apollon, I felt good about the club and the people here. Everything happened very quickly.

Did the fact that Mr. Gula is in our team influence you?

We talked a little before I signed the contract. We know each other, but we haven’t met personally. We played against each other in Slovakia when he was at Dunajska and I was at Slovan. I’ve heard good things about him, and that played a role in my decision.

Did you talk to anyone about Apollon?

I talked to Michael (Krmenčík), who is at Apollon, and also to Josef Hušbauer, who played for Cypriot teams. Everyone told me that it’s a very good place for the family and that the level of the league is high. The weather conditions are also special, but I have the time to adapt.

You also saw the training center for the first time, what are your first impressions?

It was the first time I saw it yesterday and it’s very good. The gym and the facilities are excellent. Today I will see the fields during training.

You have titles and distinctions in your career, what can you bring to the team with your experience?

I want to help the team. I’ve talked to the coach and I want to bring my experience and help the young players. I want to work hard and help both on and off the pitch. I saw that last year the team finished in 7th place and from what I’ve learned, we have to get back to where we belong.

In which position will we see you most often from those you played last year?

I mainly play as a wing-back when we have three central defenders and as a full-back. I feel better in that role. I’m ready to contribute from any position I’m called to play.

What are your feelings about your transfer?

I feel good, I’m optimistic. I watched a bit of the training yesterday, but I want to play in European competitions and I believe that here we can achieve it. We have work to do. I also saw some videos about the fans and the atmosphere at the stadium. The atmosphere is beautiful and I look forward to playing in front of the fans.
