Quentin Boisgard: “Ready for a restart at Apollon”

Quentin Boisgard gave his first interview to Apollon’s official website following his arrival in Limassol. The French midfielder shared his initial impressions of the team and the city, his decision to come to Cyprus, his ambitions for the new season, and the support he expects from the fans.

Welcome to Apollon, Quentin! What are your first impressions of the team and the city of Limassol?

My first impression is very positive; I am very happy to be here. I didn’t know Cyprus before; this is my first time here. From what I can see, Limassol is a wonderful city. Regarding the team, from what I had seen before coming here, I see a club that has made several transfers and is building a very strong team. I know they have high goals, and I hope to bring the experience I gained in France to help achieve our objectives.

You have played for several teams in Ligue 1, a league with a very high level. What made you choose Apollon and the Cypriot league?

I am coming to a new league for me and a new team like Apollon, which is a strong team and, surprisingly, is known in France. I realized that the team’s desire to bring me here was great, and I understood it would be a great experience for me as my first step abroad. The next step is for my family to join me in Limassol.

The fact that you will be playing outside of France for the first time worries you, or are you excited about the new challenge?

Personally, to decide to play abroad for the first time, I had to know that I could have my family with me and that my family would be happy. This will help me perform on the field. Cyprus, Limassol, and Apollon were the perfect choice due to the quality of life here and the quality of the club. This is paramount for me, and secondly, as you know, last season, I didn’t play at all, and the high goals set by Apollon are a great challenge for me to come here and achieve something with the team.

You didn’t play at all last season. Does this concern you, or do you see it as an opportunity for a restart?

Yes, I see it as a restart for me. Apollon was the perfect choice to start again. I am happy because the club showed confidence in me, and I will give my best to repay the trust they showed in me. Indeed, last season, I didn’t play because I had surgery on my metatarsal bone, and when I returned in March, I was ready to play 100%, but the team was very low in the standings, in the relegation zone, and with the great pressure that existed, it was very difficult to make changes. I was ready to play since March. I have a lot of confidence, I know my quality, and I am ready for this challenge and to play with Apollon.

Apollon fans are known for their passion. Have you seen any videos or photos of the atmosphere in the stadium?

There is an Apollon fan who lives in Toulouse, my city, and when he learned that I was coming to Apollon, he sent me many videos of Apollon fans. He is a very passionate fan of Apollon and Toulouse. He made me understand how important Apollon is, and I look forward to seeing them in the stadium.

What are your personal ambitions with Apollon? What do you hope to achieve with the team, both individually and collectively?

Personally, I want to play as many games as possible to help the team to the maximum by offering my quality. As for the team, I hope we can finish in a position that will allow us to go to Europe, to compete for titles, and seeing how the team is being built, I am sure that Apollon has a great chance to compete with all the teams in the league.

You know your new teammates, there are several who come from the French league this year.

Certainly, having French players in the team is very important, firstly because it is my first time abroad, and secondly, I know the personality and character of the French, and it will help me to adapt faster. To be honest, this fact influenced my decision to come here.

Did you have the opportunity in the past to play outside of France? If so, why didn’t you do it, and what made you decide to come to Cyprus now?

Yes, I had the opportunity to play abroad before, in Germany two years ago, the Netherlands, and this summer I had offers from Belgium, Romania, and other teams. Previously, I had declined these offers because I wasn’t ready to experience playing abroad as much as I am this year. This summer, I was free, and I believe that at 27, I am mature enough to play abroad.

Would you like to send a message to Apollon fans who are eager to see you play?

I am very happy to be here and will give everything for the team and our fans. Let’s go Apollon!
