Brann Await Apollon in the Third Qualifying Round

Apollon Limassol will face Norwegian side SK Brann in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League.

Based in Bergen, Brann are one of Norway’s most historic football clubs. Founded in 1908, they compete in the Eliteserien, the country’s top division. Their trophy cabinet includes three Norwegian league titles (1962, 1963, 2007) and seven Norwegian Cups, making them one of the most successful clubs in Norwegian football.

European Qualification and Current Campaign

Brann secured their place in this season’s UEFA Conference League after finishing fourth in the 2025 Eliteserien. As one of the seeded teams in the competition, they entered directly in the second qualifying round, where they eliminated Romanian side Universitatea Cluj with a 5-3 aggregate victory to set up a meeting with Apollon.

Unlike Apollon, Brann are in the middle of their domestic campaign, as the Norwegian league follows a March to November calendar. After the opening 15 league matches, they sit eighth in the Eliteserien standings, having already played a significant number of competitive fixtures in both domestic and European competitions.

Back in Cyprus

Brann return to Cyprus for a second consecutive season. Last year, they faced AEK Larnaca in the UEFA Europa League play-offs, recording a 2-1 home victory before winning 4-0 in Larnaca to secure qualification for the league phase of the competition.

The Historic Brann Stadion

Brann play their home matches at Brann Stadion, a venue inaugurated in 1919 with a capacity of approximately 16,750 spectators. It is regarded as one of Norway’s most traditional football stadiums and is renowned for the passionate atmosphere created by the club’s supporters. Unlike many stadiums across Scandinavia that feature artificial surfaces, Brann Stadion has a natural grass pitch.

Bergen and Its Football Symbol

Brann are based in Bergen, Norway’s second-largest city after Oslo. Surrounded by seven mountains and the famous fjords of the country’s western coast, Bergen is a major commercial, cultural and tourist destination, while its historic Bryggen district has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Known as the “City of Seven Mountains,” Bergen lives and breathes football, with Brann representing the city’s greatest sporting symbol for generations.

The Return of Eirik Horneland

Brann are coached by Eirik Horneland, one of Norway’s most respected managers, who returned to the club in July 2026 for his second spell in charge.

Horneland previously worked at Brann between 2021 and 2024, initially as assistant coach before taking over as head coach. During his first tenure, he guided the club back to the Eliteserien at the first attempt, led them to the 2022 Norwegian Cup title and re-established Brann among the country’s leading teams. In 2023, he was named Norwegian Coach of the Year, compiling an impressive record of 85 wins, 25 draws and 25 defeats, with a 62.9% win rate.

Between 2024 and 2026, Horneland managed French side Saint-Étienne before returning to Bergen. He is widely recognised for his attacking philosophy, high pressing and high-intensity style of play, characteristics that have become synonymous with Brann in recent years.
