A fresh start in Cyprus: Kühn’s ambition with Apollon

Philipp Kühn shares his thoughts about joining Apollon, his first experience outside Germany, and the challenges ahead. The experienced goalkeeper is determined to make an impact and connect with fans.

team?
Thank you very much. I’m very happy to be part of this team. It’s a new experience for me, my first time in Cyprus, and I already like it a lot.

As you mentioned, this is your first experience outside Germany. How do you see this challenge? Does this change bring any pressure?
It’s a challenge I really enjoy. Apollon has goals and wants to participate in European competitions next year, which excites me. My family remains in Germany, which is hard for me, but it’s part of a footballer’s life. Regarding pressure, I enjoy it. I’ve always lived with pressure, and for me, it’s a positive thing.

You were a free agent for some time. How did you handle this situation?
My previous team was relegated to the third division in Germany, and I didn’t want to stay. I spoke with other teams in the first and second divisions, but none of those opportunities worked out. I was waiting for the right challenge, and that came with Apollon. I’m very happy to be here now.

Were you training with a club or individually during this period?
I trained with two clubs in Germany, Preußen Münster and Paderborn. It was very important for me to stay in shape and be ready physically.

How were your first training sessions with Apollon? How did your teammates welcome you?
The first training sessions were great. My teammates gave me a warm welcome; everyone is very positive and supportive. A few of them speak some German, which helps me a lot.

What are your strengths as a goalkeeper?
I’m strong in one-on-one situations, dominate the penalty area, and excel at communicating with defenders. For me, guiding the defense with clear communication is very important.

What do you hope to gain from your experience with Apollon?
I hope to help the team achieve its goals. I want to stay healthy, develop as a player, and also assist younger players in their growth.

Apollon has a rich history of excellent goalkeepers. Does that add any pressure for you?
It’s an honor to be part of a club with such a strong tradition in goalkeeping. Pressure is normal for me, and I see it as a positive force to perform better.

What are your personal goals for this season?
To stay healthy, play many games, and perform well to help the team achieve its objectives.

Why did you choose the number 22?
It’s been my favorite number for the past six years. I feel comfortable with it, and I don’t like the number 1.

What message would you like to send to our fans?
I’m very happy to be here. I will give my best for this team. I can’t wait to see you at the stadium and celebrate victories together!
