Domagoj Drozdek: I really wanted to come to Apollon

Domagoj Drožđek gave his first interview to the official website of Apollon after his arrival in Limassol. The Croatian forward talked about his decision to come to Cyprus, his ambitions for the new season and his playing profile.

What are your first impressions of Cyprus and Limassol? What did you know about Apollon before you arrived?

I knew that Apollon is a big club. I had seen some pictures and videos on social media, and I am very happy to be here. I’ve also learned a lot about the culture and the club since I arrived, so I’m quite familiar with it now.

You’ve played in various countries and leagues. How do you think these experiences will help you adapt to our team?

These experiences will help me a lot. I’m now an experienced player; I’m not that young anymore. I’ve played outside my country and in various leagues, so all this experience will certainly be useful.

What convinced you to choose Apollon and Cyprus as the next step in your career? Did you have other offers from teams?

Yes, I had other offers, but I chose to come here because the President and the Sporting Director explained the team’s project for this year. I really wanted to come to Apollon. I also saw that Apollon has a lot of fans and a rich history, having won the championship a few years ago. A very important factor for me is that the team has ambitious goals in the league, which aligns with my ambitions.

Who told you about Apollon?

My friend and former teammate in Korea, Valentinos Sielis, told me everything about the club and the culture in Cyprus. So, I learned about Apollon first-hand.

What are your goals for the upcoming season with Apollon?

My goals align with the team’s goals: we need to fight for a European spot and finish as high as possible in the standings. I believe Apollon and the fans deserve that. I hope everything goes well. Of course, there will be difficult times, but we need to overcome them and fight for our goal.

How do you see yourself adapting to the team’s style of play and tactics?

I hope to adapt well to the team. I can play in all attacking positions—left, right winger, striker. I believe Apollon needed a player with my profile, and I am very happy to be here.

Which position do you prefer to play?

I am comfortable in all positions; I just want to help the team as much as I can.

How would you describe your playing style and attributes?

I would say I’m fast and always looking for the chance to create something in the attack—to assist, score goals, and make the key pass. I like to play under pressure, especially when there is pressure for titles. I believe I can handle this pressure well.

Do you have a message for the fans?

I thank them for the warm welcome, and I hope they support me, the club, and create a positive atmosphere around the team. It’s very important for me and the club. I believe in my abilities and have the desire to bring them a lot of joy.
