G. Weissbeck: I chose to play for a team that competes for titles
Gaëtan Weissbeck gave his first interview to the team’s official website following the announcement of his signing. The French midfielder spoke about his first impressions of the club, the new challenge in his career, and his goals for the upcoming season.
Gaëtan, welcome to Apollon! What are your first impressions of the team and Limassol?
Thank you for the warm welcome. I am very happy to be here as Apollon is one of the big teams in Cyprus. My first impressions are excellent. Limassol is a beautiful city, and the team has welcomed me with very positive energy. Everyone here is very friendly and has helped me adapt quickly.
You have played for several teams in France. What attracted you to continue your career in Cyprus with Apollon?
I had many options, but I chose to play for a team that competes for titles and has a rich history. I also wanted to experience playing outside of France, and I’m glad to be here.
How do you feel about playing abroad for the first time?
I was a bit hesitant at first, but after discussing it with my family, and knowing they are here with me, I’m very optimistic. It’s very important for me to have my family close.
With 36 appearances, 5 goals, and 6 assists last season, how do you evaluate your performance? What are your goals for the new season?
It was a complicated situation. Personally, I did well, but the team didn’t perform as well as I would have liked. My goal here is to have the best possible season. I hope to achieve much more with Apollon.
As a midfielder, how do you see your role in the team and what do you expect to bring to our game?
I am a player who plays in the attacking midfield, either as a number eight or ten, with the primary duties of organizing and delivering key passes. I hope to score some goals and provide plenty of assists. My job is to perform on the pitch.
What message would you like to send to the Apollon fans who are welcoming you to the team?
I want to thank them for the welcome and their messages. I will do my best and I hope they will support us in every match. We are a new team with many transfers, and we all need time to gel and deliver what’s expected on the field.
