“Grateful, Happy, and Ready to Start Playing for Apollon”

Apollon Limassol’s new signing, Tayrell Wouter, sat down for his first interview after joining the team. The Dutch winger, who impressed during his time in Georgia, shared his thoughts on joining Apollon, his ambitions, and how he plans to contribute to the team this season.

Welcome to Cyprus, Tayrell! How do you feel about joining the Apollon family?
Thank you! I’m feeling very grateful and happy to be here. I can’t wait to start playing matches.

What are your first impressions of Limassol and the club?
It’s a big club with a great atmosphere and amazing facilities. I had a very warm welcome from everyone here.

How did your new teammates welcome you?
They were very comforting, and I feel good being part of the team. I also found a few teammates who speak Dutch, which will definitely help me adapt faster.

What made you say yes to Apollon? Did you have other offers?
The concrete interest the club showed in me and the future plan they presented made my decision easy. They told me they have a journey and a plan to help me succeed and continue developing here.

Did you speak with any former teammates or anyone familiar with Apollon before joining?
Not really. I only spoke briefly with Peter (Leeuwenburgh), but no one else.

What was the first thing you wanted to know about the club?
I wanted to know how they were doing in the competition, the formation they play, and how the coach sees me fitting into the team.

How fit do you feel right now to start playing?
Fitness-wise, I’m ready. I’m preparing with extra runs and working with the coaches to get match-ready as quickly as possible.

Your performance with Dila Gori was impressive—19 goals and 7 assists! What’s the secret to your success?
Just working hard, listening to the coach, and staying focused. If you work hard and enjoy what you do, success comes naturally.

You were included in the Georgian League’s Team of the Year and also named MVP of the Month. How did those achievements feel?
It felt great! It’s always good when others recognize your hard work, both on and off the pitch.

How was your experience in Georgia? Did you adapt quickly?
My experience there was very positive. It wasn’t my first time playing in another country, but I still appreciated the warm welcome I received. My teammates helped me a lot from the beginning, and I even had a Dutch teammate, which made adapting easier.

This isn’t your first experience playing abroad. How will that help you now?
Yes, I’ve played in Lithuania, Georgia, and now Cyprus. For me, it’s just another country, but the goals remain the same—to perform well and help the team.

What’s your favorite position in attack, and how do you think it fits with Apollon’s style?
I enjoy playing as a winger, but I’m also comfortable as a striker. I like to work with the team and contribute with goals or assists to help us succeed.

What type of player are you?
I’m a fast player who works hard for the team. I like to give my best effort, whether it’s scoring goals, providing assists, or helping in any way I can.

What are your goals for this season with Apollon?
My goal is to perform well and help the team climb higher in the league table. Right now, we’re sixth, but I want to help us go further up.

What message would you like to send to the fans?
I want to tell them that I’m ready to play for them, give everything for the badge, and I can’t wait to see them at the games.
