Match Report | AEL – APOLLON (2-2)

The Limassol derby against AEL ended in a 2–2 draw at the Alphamega Stadium, in the framework of Matchday 12 of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan, in a match full of intensity, chances and comebacks.

We started strongly and created early chances through Kvida (4’) and Youssef (6’), but AEL took the lead in the 24th minute with Singh converting a penalty following a VAR review for handball. Before half-time we hit the post from a Weissbeck corner (40’), while Dione’s goal was correctly ruled out for offside (28’).

Early in the second half AEL doubled their advantage through Natel (48’), however we responded with character and determination. Weissbeck pulled one back directly from a corner in the 61st minute, and six minutes later Castel made it 2–2 with a close-range finish after a cross by Rodriguez. Both sides pushed for a winner until the final whistle, with Castel missing a big chance in stoppage time (90+8’), but the score remained unchanged.

Our next fixture is on Sunday, 7 December, at the Alphamega Stadium against Anorthosis.
