Marios Antoniadis appointed Head of Recruitment

Apollon Football (Public) Ltd announces the appointment of Marios Antoniadis as Head of Recruitment.

Marios returns to the Apollon family in a different capacity, having represented the club as a player in the past.

Following the conclusion of his playing career, he served at the Cyprus Football Association as coordinator of the youth national teams and manager of the FIFA Talent Development Scheme. He also holds a UEFA A coaching licence and a Master’s degree in Data Analytics.

In his new role, he will oversee the club’s recruitment process, working closely with the Sporting Director and the scouting department.

Following his appointment as Head of Recruitment, Mario Antoniadis gave his first interview to apollon.com.cy, discussing his return to the club, his new role and the philosophy behind Apollon’s newly established recruitment department.

Welcome back to Apollon. How did this opportunity come about?

The opportunity came after discussions with the President and Sporting Director. There was a clear intention to establish a scouting and recruitment department and, due to my background in data analytics, they felt I could contribute to this project.

Having played for the club in the past and knowing exactly what Apollon stands for, it was an easy decision for me to accept.

What will your role as Head of Recruitment involve?

Working closely with the Sporting Director and the scouting department, my role is to identify and evaluate players and provide suitable options to the technical staff.

The aim is to build an organised recruitment process which combines data analysis with football expertise.

How important are statistics and data in modern football?

Data are an important tool, but they do not make decisions on their own. They simply show us where to look.

After that, video analysis and football evaluation are equally important. In simple terms, data allow you to search in a lake rather than in the ocean.

What message would you like to send to the Apollon supporters?

The fans showed last season how important they are to the team. I hope they will continue to stand by the club because they are our twelfth player.

As for me, I will give everything I have to help Apollon achieve its objectives.
