Match Report | APOLLON – AEL (2-1)

For the 25th round of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan, we secured an important 2-1 victory against AEL at the ALPHAMEGA Stadium in the Limassol derby, completing a comeback in the second half.

The match began at a good pace with both teams looking to create chances. AEL took the lead in the 15th minute when Singh finished from close range after a cross from the right. From that point we increased our pressure and searched for the equaliser, coming close through Pedro Marques just before halftime, but Ochoa denied his header.

In the second half we continued to push forward and eventually found the breakthrough. In the 67th minute, Pedro Marques collected a through pass from Ivan Ljubic, ran behind the defence and finished calmly to make it 1-1. Just a minute later, in the 68th minute, Bruno Gaspar completed the comeback with a powerful diagonal strike from inside the box to make it 2-1.

In the closing stages we managed our lead well and even came close to a third goal through Assuncao and Escriche. AEL attempted to respond late on but were unable to change the outcome.

With this victory we moved to 52 points and remain in second place in the standings.
