Morgan Brown: “I Know What It Means to Play for Apollon”

He has been part of Cypriot football for six years. This season, he’s making the next big step in his career. Morgan Brown knows very well what it means to play in Limassol, and he’s now ready to write his own story with our team. In his first interview, he speaks with excitement about his fresh start, his past, present, and future with Apollon.

Welcome to Apollon. What does this transfer mean to you?
It means a lot. I’ve been in Limassol for six years, so I know exactly what it means to play for Apollon. It’s a big club for this city. I played for years with a rival team, and every match against Apollon always felt special. I’m really happy to be here now, and I can’t wait for the new season to begin.

Do you believe your six years in Cyprus will help you adapt quickly?
Absolutely. I know the league, I know most of the players, and I’ve played in almost every stadium. I’ve also won the championship here, so I’m bringing that experience with me. I believe that will really help me settle in quickly with the team.

You spent six years at Aris. How did that experience shape you as a footballer and as a person?
It was a beautiful journey. I had a lot of good moments, but also tough ones. I learned a lot as a player — with two different coaches and great teammates who helped me develop. As a person, it made me grow up. It was the first time I lived alone, had to look after myself, take responsibility. Over those six years, I matured a lot

Is it true that you came to Cyprus through… LinkedIn?
Yes, it’s true! I didn’t have a club at the time. I had just left Aberdeen and posted a highlight video of myself on LinkedIn. Someone from Aris saw it and messaged me to ask if I’d like to come to Cyprus for trials.

What were your first impressions of Cyprus?
It was a shock. I was used to facilities like those at Leicester and Aberdeen. When I first arrived at Aris, the club’s image was very different back then. The training ground and facilities seemed strange to me at first. But I adapted quickly. I had great teammates, especially Cypriots, and they really welcomed me. From there, I fell in love with life in Cyprus.

You’ve been here many years and are expected to receive Cypriot citizenship. Any updates?
From what I know, I should get it within a year — maybe even sooner.

Was Apollon the first team to show interest in you this summer?
Yes, I think Apollon was the first. There were other offers as well, but once I heard that Apollon was interested, I wasn’t really thinking about anything else. With all due respect to other teams, I now feel like I’m… also from Limassol. As soon as I heard the news, I told my agent we need to take this seriously. I’m very happy to be here now.

How did the transfer to Apollon come about?
It’s quite a story. I had never worked with coach Sofronis before, but every time we spoke, I could tell he appreciated me. I met him once at a stadium, when I wasn’t in the squad. He was coaching the national team back then. We had a nice conversation. From that moment, I kept in mind that he’s a coach I’d like to work with one day. When I found out he wanted me, I was excited.

Which position do you feel most comfortable playing in?
I feel most comfortable in midfield, as a box-to-box player, because I enjoy defending and scoring. But I can play wherever I’m needed — right or left back, wherever the coach wants. Just not as a goalkeeper! I’ll give everything, no matter where I’m asked to play.

What should the fans expect from you on the pitch?
First of all, strong performances. I’m a positive guy, full of energy. I love working hard, especially in training. Off the pitch, I’m very social — I love coffee and jokes. On the pitch, I give everything. I want the fans to see a player who fights with passion and only wants to win. I may not always be the best on the field, but I’ll always be the one who gives everything.

What message would you like to send to the Apollon fans?
I’m very excited to be here. I promise that every time I step on the pitch, I’ll give 200% of myself. I may not always be perfect, but I’ll always give my all. I hope we have a great season, and my biggest goal is for us to win a trophy.
